HEAD COACHES
Our head coaches are the backbone of the organization, if selected, you will be tasked with developing our athletes so they are prepared to move on to the next level. We pride ourselves in not only developing top level athletes, but in developing skills that will help our athletes succeed in all areas of life. As a head coach you will be in charge of the development at a team and individual athlete level.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creation of practice plans
- Athlete evaluations
- Host weekly off-ice meetings
- Create season plan and progressions
- Host pre-season informational parent meeting
- Attend all coaches meetings organized by the hockey director
- Maintain being a professional role model for the athletes at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
The number one qualification that we are looking for in the head coaching candidates are that they truly love working with athletes at the age group they are interested in coaching. Coaching candidates will also be able to show proficiency in the following areas:
- Minimum 3 years of coaching experience
- Demonstrates understanding and expertise in age appropriate sport specific skill development and hockey concepts
- Willingness to work with other age groups and their coaches in the progression of our athletes throughout the association
- Excellent preparation skills
- Being a great communicator with the athletes and family members.
- Willingness to follow the direction of the leadership
- Strong leadership skills both on and off the ice
- Educated on the overall development process of female athletes from the recreational athletes to the tier athletes
ASSISTANT COACHES
No team can be successful without a strong support system and a key component of that system are assistant coaches. Assistant coaches not only support the athletes in their development, but support the head coach implement his vision for the team and individual athlete's success. All assistant coaches must be approved by the Directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Following head coaches directions and roles given during practice and games
- Helping get practices ready with required equipment needed
- Preparing game benches before games with water bottles & sticks, dry erase boards
- Maintain being a professional role model for the athletes at all times
QUALIFICATIONS:
The number one qualification that we are looking for in the head coaching candidates are that they truly love working with athletes at the age group they are interested in coaching. Coaching candidates will also be able to show proficiency in the following areas:
- 0-1 year coaching experience preferred
- Demonstrates understanding and expertise in age appropriate sport specific skill development and hockey concepts
- Willingness to work with other age groups and their coaches in the progression of our athletes throughout the association
- Excellent preparation skills
- Willingness to follow the direction of the leadership
USAH COACHING REQUIREMENTS
USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program require both certification and registration to be eligible to coach. Registration is done online on a yearly basis. Certification is also required. A few basic steps requirements are as follows:
- USAH player/coach registration
- USAH NCSI background screening
- USAH Safe Sport Training
- USAH online age-specific module(s) for the age level of play you are coaching
- USAH Coaching Education Program Certification Clinic Requirements
Find, register and attend the required certification clinic. Only one clinic per season and all coaches start at Level 1. Coaching CEP clinics are generally held August through December each season. CEP 5 clinics can be held in the Spring.

Bruins Coaching Symposium
The Boston Bruins Coaching Symposium is a marquee event that offers USA Hockey certified coaches a valuable opportunity to learn from the very best. This event is free and open to USA Hockey certified coaches and amateur coaches. USA Hockey Level 3 and 4 coaching certification will be offered to qualified coaches (expiring Level 2 and 3).
Past keynote speakers included Boston Bruins President Cam Neely, Head Coach Claude Julien, Assistant Coaches Doug Houda and Doug Jarvis, USA Hockey Regional Managers Roger Grillo & Ty Hennes, and USA Hockey's Senior Director, Kevin McLaughlin.
